4.0 out of 5 stars Surprisingly good, May 29, 2011
This review is from: Stansport "Black Granite" Star-Light Tent with Rainfly (Sports)
This tent is surprisingly good. Stansport is best known for low end tents so I was not sure if the quality would be there. I am a seasoned backpacker and I needed a replacement for my 30 year old Eureka Timberline which was too heavy and no longer waterproof. I liked the light weight and large floor space of the Star-Lite so I bought it over better known brands. I also like the full rain fly design. Most tents have partial rain flys so your sleeping bag can contact the side of the tent and get wet. I'm a little concerned of the possibility for splash during a heavy downpour or leakage passed the vestibule zipper but other than that, I'm pretty happy with my choice. The set up is a little more complicated than my Timberline but it is not too bad. There is an error in the instructions which refers to a rain fly pole. No such pole exists and it's not needed. I really like the compact size and light weight. Most backpacking tents are wider when rolled up and they weigh one to 2 pounds... Read more

4.0 out of 5 stars Could be Better, but Good for its Price, November 25, 2011

Amazon should allow us to put pictures on our reviews, because the pics the company submits are GARBAGE. Anyway. This past Spring and Summer my wife and I have gotten together our first ever set of backpacking gear, and this tent has been a great addition to our gear:

Cons: Our tent came with two small poles that LOOKED like they were made to spread out the rain fly more, but they didn't fit under the rain fly in any way that made sense, so we took them out, you can do quite well without them. Also, the mesh is nice, but some of the stitching was poorly done, and it is a little on the fragile side. And the stakes that came with the tent are garbage, we bought some new ones for the rain fly, you still have to use the ones that came with it for the corners, but you will want better ones for the rain fly :S. The color is a little bit ridiculous...but that's not a big deal :D

Pros: First, the tent came well waterproofed. It rained some the first night we slept in it,... Read more

1.0 out of 5 stars Poor quality tent, July 28, 2011
Amazon Verified Purchase( What's this?)
This review is from: Stansport "Black Granite" Star-Light Tent with Rainfly (Sports)
This is not much of a backpacking tent. The quality is very poor. I could see light comming through the corner
seams of the inside floor. I am sure during a heavy rain your sleeping bag would get soaked. There were 2 places on the netting
that already had runs right out of the box. This tent is just about a nightmare to put up by yourself. Each fiberglass pole ( 2 of them)
are 15 ft. in length broke down into 1-ft. sections. It is almost impossible to insert the poles through the sleeves (no clip-on) without the
poles pulling apart in the sleeve due to the length of the poles. Each pole has to be inched along through the sleeves. Same problem
taking the tent down. I have put this tent up and taken it down 3 times now, and it has taken over 25 minutes just to get it erected. This
tent has alot of design flaws. I dont see this tent holding up very long. I guess you get what you pay for. Folks, Do yourself a favor
and spend the extra money on a better... Read more
